WSSU CREU Weekly Report #10: NC-LSAMP and Continuing Lit. Review

This week we continued reading and reviewing articles related to our research to help us formulate the introduction to the final report. In addition, on Friday Nov. 17, 2017 those of us who were available attended the North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (NC-LSAMP) conference at NC State University. At the event we had the opportunity to present research to judges and other researchers from various NC universities. They also presented the students with the opportunity to speak with multiple graduate school representatives, and attend sessions that were informed students on how to be successful in research and graduate studies. The sessions involved a brief presentation and then time for Q&A. One of the most interesting sessions was the Student Networking Speed Dating. During this session students moved around to tables that had an influential staff member at each one who would talk briefly about their work and answer any questions students may have had about how they gained their success and what students can start doing now. The whole event was inspiring, making me think more deeply about my future and all of the things that I am capable of doing if I put in the work. The LSAMP program also does a lot to help students pay for their studies in STEM.
